Director of Christian Education


The Director of Christian Education (DCE) provides the vision, structure, and coordination necessary to develop and execute a holistic program of spiritual development for the children, youth, and adults at Blanchard First United Methodist. Director of Christian Education and Program Coordinator (40 hours per week are flexible to meet the needs of the church based on planned activities and weekends required as needed).


  • Available to work weekends as needed and especially Sundays

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Education, Seminary or other relevant degree

  • Individual must be Organized to handle Youth, Children and Adult Activities

  • Must be able to communicate and recruit church people for teams.

  • Computer skills in Microsoft Products.

  • 2 years’ experience preferred

  • Practicing Christian

  • Ability to be a team player and to inspire others

  • A sense of a call and passion for working with children and youth

  • Social Media skills a plus

Duties and Responsibilities – Children Ministry

  • Coordinating education and special programming with the Christian Education Team.

  • Acquiring and adapting curriculum materials to conform with our Wesleyan Tradition

  • Recruiting, training, and supporting teachers

  • Acquiring and organizing necessary study supplies.

  • Coordinating and recruiting assistants to help develop children and youth group activities and programs.

  • Recruiting and resourcing the Vacation Bible School Director and providing support the week of Vacation Bible School.

  • Coordinating and teaching youth confirmation classes with pastor.

  • Sharing in the leadership of worship to include children’s time each week.

  • Scheduling and chairing meetings of the Christian Education Team.

  • Developing the Christian Education budget and following the budgetary guidelines set by Session.

  • Updating bulletins, newsletter, Social media and any other publications to communicate the activities of the Christian Education ministry.

  • Performing other duties from time to time as may be directed by the pastor.

Duties and Responsibilities - Youth Ministries

  • Provide and promote overall coordination of Junior and Senior High Programming.

    • special presentations and study groups for youth

    • outreach opportunities for the youth

    • special activities such as sleepovers, concerts and youth events

    • youth mission trips

    • fundraising

  • Promote and maintain cooperation between youth ministry and the ministry of the church.

  • Recruit, train, and guide adults to work with the Jr. and Sr. High groups.

  • Schedule, oversee planning and execution of regular Sunday meetings or events

  • Communicate with parents, volunteers and youth.

Duties and Responsibilities –Adult and Family Program Coordinator

  • Work with Adult Small Groups for curriculum and small group needs.

  • Coordinate creative programs and community outreach.

  • Plan and implement new programs targeted to spiritual growth and development.

Administrative Duties

  • Report to the Pastoral Staff.

  • Maintain classroom supplies for Small Groups

  • Maintain all attendance records for each group.

  • Prepare budget and monitor expenses for all Christian Education Programs and activities.

  • Assist as needed with the Church Camp registration.

  • Develop publicity (handouts, flyers, blogs, and emails).
